WEST JERSEY WOMEN'S FIELD HOCKEY ASSOCIATION
Fall Outdoor League
RULES OF PLAY
1. The summary fall/outdoor rules include only the major rules that are different from the game of field hockey or other specific clarifications.
2. WJWFHA follows high school rules of play.
3. Teams will consist of not more than eleven players on the field but not less than eight players in order to take the field. This may be ten field players plus a goalkeeper or eleven field players. All goalkeepers must wear a helmet, face mask and pads.
4. If a team does not have eight players to take the field and 10-minutes have passed from game, this will count as a forfeit. Teams can still continue to play as a fun game. The score will be recorded as 1-0 for the winning team.
5. There are two-halves of 25-minute periods with a 5-minute half time. The game clock will begin at game time whether a team (s) is ready to take the field. No overtime play.
6. Only players and managers are permitted in the player area and on the player's bench.
7. Captains: there must be a captain present for each team during the entire game. Captains must meet with officials prior to the game to discuss any concerns or issues. Captains are the only players that should approach an official for any reason.
8. Game Play: Goalie cannot cross the 50-yard line. If a team does not have a goalie and plays an extra field player, 1 player must remain behind the 50-yard line at all times. If a team is in violation, the opposing team is awarded a penalty corner. If the ball becomes lodged in the pads of the goalie a penalty corner is awarded. Players must score inside the scoring circle.
9. Substitutions: unlimited rolling subs. Substitutions should enter and exit at the 50-yard line. Substitutions are not permitted for either team during a penalty corner.
RULES OF PLAY CONTINUED
10. All scores are reported to the President and Vice President no later than Monday morning.
11. Players may cross the center line once the ball has been played.
12. Foul language is not permitted. Players maybe asked to leave the field from unsportsmanlike behavior. Violence or aggressive behavior towards anyone is strictly prohibited. Any person found guilty of such action will be removed, suspended and/or banned from WJWFHA.
13. There are no time-outs. Playing time is a running clock. Play will stop for injuries or other safety reasons but the clock will continue to run.
14. Each team is responsible for bringing a FIRST AID kit to each game. Trainers are not provided. Ice is available inside at the snack stand.
15. Carding: If a player receives a RED CARD, the player is expelled from the current game and the next game. The player must leave the premises immediately. The player is not permitted to be a spectator at the current game or the next game. An official does not have to give a yellow card to a player before issuing a red card. If a player receives a YELLOW CARD there is a minimum of a 5-minute penalty. Discretion is up to the official. There are NO substitutions for the player receiving the yellow card.
16. All uniform guidelines apply. Please refer to the league rule book or the uniform guidelines on the by law page.
17. All team managers/captains must have the league rules and by laws present at each game.
